Jeff (writer)

Why did you decide to apply and work with us?
Honestly, during my job hunt, I applied to whatever posting I could find on the OJ platform. I remember there was a time when I tried out for 3-5 jobs in 1 day.
Then, when I came across Young Publisher, I was attracted because of the enticing pay. And the flexible working hours were perfect for the situation nowadays.
Ultimately, I decided to work with Young Publisher because I appreciate their dedication to helping young people grow and improve their skills.
Did the job meet or exceed your expectations (and in what way)?
The writing job at Young Publisher met my expectations. It allowed me to improve my skills while working with a supportive team. And that’s on top of the handsome pay.
Also, I appreciate the opportunity to receive feedback and suggestions to really grow as a writer. In fact, I gained many professional and non-professional learnings from the Young Publisher team. And that helps me a lot in my career and my self-improvement journey.
What are the most valuable things you’ve learned since you started?
The most valuable things I’ve learned at my job since I started are how an A+ web content writer thinks, organizes, and writes articles. Since beginning day 1, I’ve been getting valuable feedback and guides on what to do and how to do stuff. It feels like I’m being molded to become a valuable writer.
And communication. The online setup makes it hard to be in touch with the team. And life gets crazy sometimes. But I learned that people could be accommodating and understanding when they know the kind of situation you’re in.
That’s why I now value communication more than I used to. And that’s even outside of my work, like in relationships with other people.
How did this job help you develop your skills?
A lot because I really was a new kid on the block. I’ve got limited experience, but I was confident that I could be passionate about the things I choose to do. And I think the Young Publisher saw that potential and greatly helped me bring out the best in me.
Ultimately, The writing job at Young Publisher helped me develop my skills by providing me with the opportunity to improve my skills while working with a supportive team.
How would you describe the work environment?
The work environment is supportive and allows me to grow and improve on my mistakes. I also believe the team is full of talented and motivated individuals passionate about helping others. And yes, I admit that sometimes I get pressured because this team is simply amazing. But I believe this environment pushes me to become the most excellent writer I can be.
Basically, it’s humane. It’s healthy. It’s simply a breath of fresh air. I love that Young Publisher treats us like people, not robots . But aside from that, it’s conducive to bringing out the best in you.
What do you like best about this job?
I’m not joking when I say EVERYTHING. I mean it, really.
The pay. The people. The working environment. Everything just fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.
And it’s everything I could ever ask for and more.
What would you improve and why?
About the working conditions, nothing at this moment.
But what I want to improve is myself.
First of all, I’m doing it to become a great writer. After all, I have some career goals I’ve set for myself.
But this self-improvement journey isn’t only for me. It’s also my way of saying thank you to the Young Publisher team, who continuously believes in me. I want to dedicate all my improvements to them as well.
Is there anything you miss and if so, what is it?
Well, to be completely honest, there are some aspects of my life that I currently miss now just because I decided to work as a full-time writer. Mostly the gym – I used to workout 5-6x a week, and now I just try to show up 2-3x a week. But with that said, I don’t regret anything at all.
I realized that I needed to dedicate time and effort to improve my writing skills and move forward with my career.
Which is your favorite part of the work process?
It’s the research part of the work process. Admittedly, it can be stressful as it’s super overwhelming at times. Especially if you’re writing about a topic that you don’t have prior knowledge on.
But it’s exciting to read about stuff you didn’t know before. Every day is just an incredible learning process.
What do you think are the most important abilities for this job?
Well, aside from writing skills and excellent English grammar. I think it’s super important to have robust research skills. As I’ve learned, with good research, you get to build a good foundation for your article.
Plus, you need to be very keen on details, and you should be proactive. Because if you don’t have these qualities, it’s super hard to improve your writing skills.
Moreover, it’s also crucial that you’re dedicated. And you’re willing to sacrifice some things in life to improve your profession. If you don’t have that grit, it’s easy to back out. Because, in all honesty, this job really takes total commitment.
If you ever start getting bored, what new challenge would you be up for?
I’ll probably take a short break and get back into my hobbies, like going to the gym or studying nutrition. It’s actually a goal of mine to become a fitness and nutrition trainer.
TMI: It’s 1 of the reasons why I want to be a great writer too. Because I may be good in “theory” [nutrition concepts], but if I don’t know how to communicate to my clients or provide actionable tips to them, I’m sure I won’t be an outstanding coach.
