Yan (writer)

Why did you decide to apply and work with us?

I decided to apply mainly because of the salary. I have a family to take care of and bills to pay so naturally, how much I can potentially earn is the first thing I consider before applying for any job.

And Young Publisher’s offer is way above the competition. I’ve had writing jobs before that paid mostly half of what this company was offering. So as soon as I saw the job post, I jumped at the opportunity.

Another reason I applied is that the job was about writing for a tech website. Which is right up my alley.

I have a background in Information Technology. And that’s why even though I’ve written articles on a wide variety of topics, the tech niche remains among my favorites.

So in other words, getting the chance to get paid generously while writing for a niche that I love was what made me decide to apply and work for Young Publisher.

Did the job meet or exceed your expectations (and in what way)?

The job absolutely exceeded my expectations. I didn’t expect to receive comprehensive writing training while on the job. But Young Publisher provided that, which I’m extremely appreciative of because I can definitely say it made me a better writer.

I’ve also been blown away by how really nice the Young Publisher team are. They sure make it a point to appreciate the good things that I do. This is unlike some of the other clients I’ve worked for who only took pleasure in pointing out my mistakes.

What are the most valuable things you’ve learned since you started?

As far as writing goes, I’ve come to appreciate the value of simplicity and straightforwardness. There’s beauty in keeping your sentences short and snappy. While also using the simplest possible words to make the articles as clear and easy to understand as possible.

I also learned how to use a tool like the Hemingway app. I found out just how useful it is in eliminating hard-to-read sentences. And that, in turn, helps improve the overall quality of my writing.

Young Publisher also taught me how to research topics more efficiently. This made it possible for me to write 3000 words per day even on topics that I’ve never written about in the past.

Furthermore, I also learned about the value of time management. Young Publisher taught me that you can accomplish a lot within a 7.5-hour shift as long as you don’t slack off but work with a sense of urgency.

How did this job help you develop your skills?

I can safely say that this job has refined my overall writing skills even though I’ve only been working for them for a few months. I’m already a better writer than I was when I started.

And that’s largely thanks to the mentorship of Young Publisher. As well as the comprehensive writing course and other tools that Young Publisher provides. So when their job post on Online Jobs PH says “learn and earn”, they really mean it.

With this company, you’ll really get educated while also being paid handsomely.

How would you describe the work environment?

I may sound biased here but I really believe the working environment is just perfect for a work-from-home setup. It’s the right blend of being relaxed while also ensuring that deadlines are met.

I love the fact that communications are strictly via email. This means no time is wasted on unnecessary video calls. And we can focus solely on writing and editing.

Young Publisher have also been really open. I feel like I can easily express any concerns to them without hesitation. There’s no proverbial barrier between them and us the writers even though they’re technically our superiors.

And I love how the schedule’s relatively flexible as long as you submit writing assignments before 5 PM. This means I can start my shift at 6 am, 7 am, or 8 am.

What do you like best about this job?

It’s hard to just choose one because I love a lot of things about this job.

Of course, the salary is at the top. It’s going to be difficult to find another job at Online Jobs PH that rewards their employees as well as Young Publisher does.

But I also love how nice Young Publisher are. They’ll never make anyone feel intimidated. And you can tell that their genuine concern is to ensure that I become a better writer.

And I also enjoy the topics that I’m writing about. Smart home technology is such a broad niche that I learn something new and interesting on a daily basis. And I love that.

What would you improve and why?

The thing is, I can see that Young Publisher’s already doing so much to improve their entire process. From hiring to onboarding to the actual writing job. So there’s really not much I can suggest at the moment.

I remember when I started. I was already doing around 2500 to 3000 per day even during my first week. And it was actually quite overwhelming as I was also still trying to familiarize myself with Young Publisher’s writing style.

That should no longer be the case with new writers. I can see that Young Publisher already made changes regarding that. Such as limiting the number of words new hires write during their first month.

This should help ease them into their new roles. With more time to study YP’s writing tools and courses.

Is there anything you miss and if so, what is it?

None. I’m perfectly happy with this work-from-home setup with an excellent employer like Young Publisher. I’m not missing anything as far as my previous employments are concerned.

Which is your favorite part of the work process?

My favorite is learning something new almost every day. I enjoy reading and researching tech topics. And then crafting an article based on what I’ve learned.

Obviously, it’s not the easiest job. It does require hard work and perseverance to have to write 3000 words on a daily basis. But I do enjoy the overall research and writing process. I’m grateful that I’m constantly learning while also getting paid.

What do you think are the most important abilities for this job?

The most important abilities for this job are dedication and open-mindedness. Of course, this is aside from the obvious that you’d have to have good writing and researching abilities.

You have to be dedicated to the job in order to create 3000 words of original, well-researched articles on technical topics every single work day. You’d also need that attribute to ensure that you put in the required hours and do it within the set deadline.

And you also need to be open-minded to criticisms and writing suggestions. I guess some writers may take feedback personally so they end up leaving. But in a job like this, you should be open to critiques of your writing. Having this attribute will only help you become a better writer.

If you ever start getting bored, what new challenge would you be up for?

I’m not sure I’ll ever get bored because I really love to research and write. If I ever get bored, I’d probably just ask for some time off to recharge. And then get back to writing.
